Serrated slat cusp for high-lift device noise reduction

Noise reduction capabilities of slat cusp serration were experimentally assessed and demonstrated for a 30P30N three-element high-lift airfoil fitted with two different types serrated cusps. Aerodynamic characteristics evaluated the aid surface pressure distribution, insignificant differences found among all tested configurations. The unsteady flow serrations examined using near- far-field measurements to gain deeper understanding noise generation mechanism. Although increased fluctuations by serrations, substantial in was observed. increase near-field energy levels attributed non-propagating hydrodynamic field within cove main element, whereas elimination vortex shedding serration. Further reaffirmation observations hypothesis provided higher-order spectral analysis wavelet analysis.
